MEET THE FOUNDER

YASMINE TORAB

5 STAR WEDDING DIRECTORY

I am delighted to present the first of my new blog post series of “Meet the Founder”. The aim is to showcase founders in the luxury small business space. I’ve known Yasmine for over 14 years. This was at the start of her business, The 5 Star Wedding Directory. It was the first luxury wedding blog of its kind at the time and I have watched how she and her co founder husband Tai built the blog from the ground up to become one of the best known luxury directories in the world.

Prior to starting the blog, Yasmine worked at the original ‘Grand Hotel’ – The Langham – in London’s West End, gaining considerable hotel world experience by organising hi-spec parties, weddings, events and more. It was while working with the some of the world’s best suppliers that Yasmine spied a gap in the luxury wedding industry – a lack of central hub where brides and planners could exclusively search for the elite and most highly recommended suppliers, from haute couture wedding dresses, remarkable venues, gourmet cakes, stylish photography and fabulous flowers, to the most sought-after wedding planners.

14 years later and the rest you could say is history. The 5 Star Wedding Directory has gathered an exceptional collection of the world’s most inspiring wedding brands featuring beautiful, fresh and original ideas for sophisticated brides all gorgeously presented at one wedding website. From Engagement to Honeymoon, 5 Star Wedding Directory’s content is tailored to entice and inspire couples throughout their happy journey.

Yasmine, in her own words tells us a little bit about the journey to success and herself

1. Describe your blog

Exquisite luxury wedding directory. From flowers & favours to dresses & diamonds. You’ll find something gorgeous to dream about on our blog as well as being able to get in touch with the world’s best wedding suppliers.

2. What is your favourite thing about working on your blog?

We get invited to some beautiful places to sample some incredible things from 5 Star hotels to fashion shows, locations across the globe as well as on our doorstep, and it’s such a treat to be able to share our experiences with beautiful brides-to-be from around the world.

3. What is the story you are dreaming of writing but haven’t yet?

I’ve always wanted to feature a piece on a celebrity wedding – but from a first-hand experience! I’d love to be invited to the most decadent and lavish of affairs and be able to give the inside story to our readers. What did her dress feel like? What did her hair look like up close? What did the food really taste like? What had they scented the venue with? I’d love to be able to breathe in the sheer gorgeousness of the day and relive the magic on the blog.

4. Who is your typical reader/follower/audience and how have they evolved over time?

Our typical reader is a bride-to-be looking for real luxury inspiration to make their wedding day incredibly special. We feature real luxury venues, honeymoons and gowns as well as beauty, flowers and the all-important cake! Our brides want pure extravagance and our blog is the perfect place to indulge in dreaming about your special day.

5. How far in advance do you work?

We have such a range of topics on the blog, so each item is different. We cover a lot of reviews and real weddings, so we try and keep pace with the seasons, thinking about what time of year a bride will be planning for and getting as much inspiration and information online as we can throughout the year.

6. What types of pitches/stories/features are you looking for?

We always love featuring real luxury weddings, a glamorous bride, exquisite venue and stunning florals will always catch my eye and will appeal most to our readers. Everyone loves a bit of pampering and special treatments, and your wedding day is the perfect opportunity to indulge.

We also love to share the key wedding trends, Q and A’s and top tips for couples, wedding advice and seasonal suggestions, we want to share those stories with our readers.

7. What are the worst brand interactions you’ve experienced?

We really only deal with luxe brands, so we don’t really come across any bad interactions!

8. How can a brand build a relationship with you?

Once a member, we will work alongside each company to ensure they benefit from maximum exposure on our site. From advertising or images galleries to a directory listing or instagram posts, we can work together to make sure we have the right fit. You can find more information on our website – www.5starweddingdirectory.com.

9. Where would you recommend going for afternoon tea?

The Ritz in London. The welcome, service and tea itself is faultless. This is not surprising as The Ritz is the only hotel in the world with its own tea Sommelier.

10. Pre 2020, you usually travel to at least 30 five star venues and hotels around the world. Can you tell us about the best recent holiday you've ever had?

Yes, I’ve been very fortunate to stay in some amazing places as part of my job. However, my holiday in Dubai was hands down my best holiday best experience. We stayed in 5 different incredible properties and what struck me was the seamless service and sublime luxury experience like no other. We started our stay at the Address Downtown Hotel with its stunning views, then moved to the really sophisticated Armani Hotel, then to the One and Only Royal Mirage Resort which lived up to its name. Our next stay was at The Ritz Carlton, ending up at the Burj Al Arab. For anyone who loves city vacations and incredible nightlife, Dubai is the perfect honeymoon location.

11. Where do you get your personal stationery from?

Smythson. I adore their crocodile leather diaries.

12. What's your dream car?

I’m a lifelong BMW fan and the new 7 series in Cashmere will do nicely.

13. If you could have a new kitchen, who would you get in to do it?

I’d definitely get a Tom Howley kitchen. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is second to none. I’d also head over to Harrods for my appliances.

14. What are your favourite bath products?

I love scented candles and in my opinion Diptyque makes some of the best ones. They recently celebrated their 60th anniversary, and brought out a collection of limited edition candles with a playful and hypnotic design that I have my eye on. In an ideal world I would also have a matching bathroom designed by Grohe or Villeroy and Boch.

15. Who is your dream make up artist?

Charlotte Tilbury. Her products are amazing and I love the fact that she dared to dream and broke the mould.

16. Who is the best hairstylist you know?

I am biased but it has to be Gustav Fouche. He is one of the most genuine and kind hairstylists. He has beautiful manners, makes you feel relaxed and you end up with an incredible hairstyle.

17. What's your favourite restaurant meal?

The lobster linguine from Kaspar’s at The Savoy. It’s everything everyone who raves about it says it is.

18. If you had an unlimited budget for a shopping spree, where would you go?

I’d go to three cities. First to London, Old Bond Street and New Bond Street. Then I’d go to Rodeo Drive  Los Angeles, and finish at the Dubai Mall so I can revisit the aquarium.

19. If you could get your daughter, anything what would it be?

I’d get her what money cannot buy. A happy and fulfilled life. No amount of designer clothes can replace values such as honesty, kindness, integrity, gratitude and being considerate of others.

20. Has a piece of jewellery ever made you happy?

I will never forget trying on the ‘Bird of Paradise’ ring from Boodles. I loved the shape of the diamonds and the craftsmanship but most important was how beautiful it made me feel.

21. Do you carry a credit card?

I actually don’t own a credit card but if I did, I would carry an American Express Centurion just for the travel related perks!

22. Where can brands find you on Social Media?

You can find us on Instagram for some gorgeous daily bridal inspiration @5starweddings
